There are two different kinds of people in this world: those who thrive in emergency situations and those who run to the nearest corner and curl up in the fetal position. Well, maybe they don’t get that scared, but most just freeze and do nothing. And I do mean most. There are many situations that qualify as an emergency so let me explain and give some examples.

An emergency situation could be a girls parents coming home while you are fucking her. It could be your own mom coming home while you’re smoking a joint. Or it could be a lot more serious. Your house could be on fire and the doorway is blocked. You could have a gun pointed at your head while someone is stealing your car. You could even be lost and starving in the woods with your leg trapped under a boulder. All of these, and many more, constitute an emergency.

So, now that we have the situations down, let me compare and contrast the actions of the Deer in Headlights and the Man of Action for each situation:

Situation 1: You are in your girl’s bedroom doing the dirty when, all-of-a-sudden, you hear the door open and her parents talking downstairs. The Deer in Headlights would do absolutely nothing in this situation (which will be a common theme with him). He stops having sex, yes. But he simply gets dressed and stays in the room, waiting for the parents to discover him and scold both himself and their daughter. The Man of Action however does not give a damn about the girl, he only cares about getting himself to safety. He jumps up, throws on his clothes, quietly opens the window (taking out the screen if there is one) and climbs down from the roof (or jumps if there isn’t one).

Situation 2: You are smoking a joint on the back deck when your mom comes home. Could be a big deal, or she might join in, but for the point of this story let’s pretend it’s the former. The Man of Action leaps out of his seat, rips up the joint, and throws the pieces over the railing into the grass. He then quickly scans the deck/yard for something to pretend to have been doing. Mom comes out to greet him without any suspicion. The Deer in Headlights freezes. He sits there with the joint in his hand waiting for his punishment.

Situation 3: Your house catches fire, and the huge blaze is right outside the door to your room. What do you do? The DiH once again freezes like a block of ice. He calls 911 and just sits down to wait for the fire department as the flames grow bigger and creep closer. Maybe he survives, maybe he doesn’t. The MoA busts through the window and climbs down to safety, if there is a window. If there isn’t he grabs a sheet or towel, soaks it quickly in the bathtub, and runs through the flames in the doorway, escaping outside.

I could continue with examples of the Deer in Headlights dying and the Man of Action cutting off his own leg (in the case of “boulder on the leg”) but I will save you the tedious stories and get straight to the point. You want to be a Man of Action! Or a Lady of Action if you have breasts. Either way it is best to be in control of your own fate rather than wait for others to decide it for you.

Most people in this world are the Deer in Headlights, and many of them are aware of this and do nothing to change. Many think there isn’t a way to change. They are wrong. There is one and only one way to become a Man of Action and that is to become more comfortable in emergency situations by experiencing more of them. I am not saying go out and put your life in danger; just go out more. The more you do the greater the chance that you will eventually wind up in one of these predicaments.

I already know which of these I am. Which are you?

Today a new weekly trend begins! Every Tuesday here at Scribute, from now until the end of time, will be True Story Tuesday. This means every Tuesday I will post a review of a documentary movie. The reason for this is (1) because I love documentaries and (2) because this is the Blog of Knowledge and it’s hard to walk away from most documentaries without gaining at least a little bit of knowledge. So on to my first review: Collapse.

Collapse is a great documentary starring Michael Ruppert. In fact he is the only person shown in the movie, other than clips of older footage thrown in to help the viewer visualize what Ruppert is talking about. The whole time Ruppert is sitting in a chair in what looks like a shitty, concrete basement, just talking to the camera. But as terrible as this sounds, it is everything but boring. I didn’t get bored once during the entire one hour and twenty minute film. Ruppert is a genius of his field.

Michael focuses his discussion on oil, or the lack-there-of. He talks about how the world is running out of oil, which will mean the collapse of civilization as we know it. He tells how twenty-five percent of the world’s oil was under Saudi Arabia, but they have past their peak oil production, even though they won’t admit it. He knows this because they have begun off-shore drilling; why would anyone begin more expensive drilling if they still had tons of oil under their own land, which can be mined much cheaper?

Tar Sand in Canada, near Alberta, is strip mined and it is refined by using thousands of gallons of oil: in the transporting, boiling, cleaning, mining, etc. Most people think of cars as using oil only to make the car move, so they wonder why we don’t just solve this problem by making all cars electric, but they fail to realize that each tire is made up of seven gallons of oil, not to mention all of the plastics in the interior, the transportation of parts, the oil that fuels the machines which assemble the cars, and the transporting of the finished product to the dealer.

Not only is oil used in plastics, rubbers, toothpaste, and fuel tanks, but it is used to make pesticides too, which is on many of the foods we eat. Not only does this harm our bodies, but it harms the soil these foods are grown in. No longer is there crop rotation and natural nutrients being returned to the soil, but pesticides and other chemicals are being put into the soil, making it worse and worse every year for growing plants.

The graph shown represents human population over time, from 1000 AD when there were only 275 million people on the earth, to 2006 AD when 6.5 BILLION people now reside on our planet. The world was not made to sustain this many people, and the population increase is directly related to oil. When it was first discovered that machines could be powered by steam, the graph shows a slight increase in population. When coal was discovered there was a slightly larger increase. When oil first came about the graph skyrockets. Only because of oil are we able to sustain this many people. Just think about hospitals, the place that keeps all these people going. Most of their equipment is plastic, and most of it is powered by electricity, which is mostly created by fossil fuels like coal and oil.

The government pretends like this decline in oil isn’t happening, but there is evidence that they know it is. So in twenty or thirty years when they say, “Nobody could have predicted this,” they are lying through their teeth. You know now and you can predict it. To quote the movie, “How can you say there’s no hope?” “Just change your mind!” Changing your mind and deciding to prepare yourself for this crisis, by growing your own food and learning to live off the land, is the only way to avoid inevitable peril. “Stop thinking like the dinosaurs!”

So by now most people have seen the commericals put out by the Ad Council aimed at teenagers for using the word “gay” to describe something that is stupid. I just saw this for the first time yesterday, and I am appalled. This is fucking ridiculous. In no way, shape, or form could this ever stop teens from saying “gay”; it just won’t happen. I’m not saying it’s impossible to make them stop using this term, but this is definately not an effective way of doing it. In fact, after seeing this commercial, I decided to double my usage of the word gay just because of how fucking gay these commercials are.

The way to go about making people stop using the word “gay” would be to introduce a new word that catches on. Already “wack” has caught on, decreasing the usage of “gay” significantly. A commercial about not saying gay only brings attention to the word, and I would be very surprised if we did not see the a significant rise in the usage of this word.

The Ad Council is partially government funded, meaning you and I pay for these ridiculous commercials. Just visit their campaign page and check out the list of projects which have been put on public television as commercials. Some of them–or even most of them–make sense and sound like great issues that need exposure. However, if you actually go further in depth and check out the commercials and ads for these seemingly awesome campaigns, you will realize that they have all been carried out in a completely ineffective way. If you want to get through to teens about smoking/drinking/saying “gay”, maybe you should hire a teen who smokes, drinks, and says “gay”, because I guarantee he knows what it is like and might be able to get a message through to these kids.

To take action, write a letter to your Senator/Representative discussing the reasons why Ad Council funding should be completely cut-off and the organization destroyed all together. Don’t just sit on the couch with your thumb up your ass and your other hand in the Doritos bag complaining. Do something! I know I will.

Today I walked through the forest barefoot and shirtless. It was one of the most amazing experiences I have had in a long time and I plan to continue this as a daily tradition. In fact I am going to spend much more time outside than I have been recently. It saddens me to see so many buildings and man-made things when I am with nature. We have been slowly murdering Mother Earth for centuries now, and it needs to stop.

Too many people are trying to fight pollution by buying “greener” products and services. This is not how saving the earth is done. The earth was beautiful in the time of the Native Americans, much more beautiful than it is now. I can only imagine how the land must have looked, filled with humongous, thousand-year-old trees and wildflowers covering the hillsides. Villages with huts and fires set against the gorgeous backdrop of a raging river. These people did not use plastic that was more environmentally friendly than its competitor; they just didn’t use it!

When I dream at night is not of our cement sidewalks next to a black-topped highway surrounded by buildings. When I dream it is of that beautiful village. I am sitting next to the campfire listening to the sounds of the night, conversing with a great friend who has stood by my side over the course of my entire life. It is of family and friendship. It is of peace. This is the life I wish I lived. This is the life our people will once again see. I promise it.

Often, when building a campfire or backyard bonfire, there is that one person who tries to take control of creating it and who has very little knowledge of how to properly build or start a fire. They gather all of the wood and material to start it with, making them seem knowledgeable when they come back with all of the correct supplies: shavings to light, twigs to catch, bigger sticks to keep it growing, and logs to keep it going and give heat. So far they seem on the right track.

Almost always, however, my awe at their apparent skill comes to an end when they set all that they have gathered into an massive pile, although, to their credit, it is usually a correctly organized pile with shavings on the bottom, twigs over them, with the bigger sticks following, and finally the logs. And sure enough, when they go to light it, NOTHING!!!

For how can this fire start when it has no air to breathe, no room to grow, and no head start to become hot enough to burn such logs. Usually there is one of two outcomes: (1) the fire must be rebuilt or (2) it is drenched in gasoline or lighter fluid. The first option is just inconvenient. The second is unacceptable in my opinion, for it is unnecessary, and many times it is not possible if none of these “My-First-Fire” helper liquids are not available. Sometimes this preposterous job is due to simple ignorance on the part of the creator, it is almost always, however, due to impatience.

It takes skill, time, and patience to build a fire (or do anything else, for that matter) accurately. It is best, I have found, to use this method:

Start with wood chips and dried leaves in a pile.

Add a teepee of twigs covering this pile.

Light the kindling

Slowly add more sticks, gradually increasing their size.

Finally, once the fire is big enough to sustain itself, begin adding logs.

This method will almost always be successfull, although it too takes some practice and skill.

I did not, however, write all of this in an effort to explain to you how to make a better fire, although I hope that you have improved your knowledge in pyrotechnics all the same. No, I have written this in an attempt to explain why not much is done correctly these days; almost everywhere you go you see something which is half-assed: whether its cars (I’m looking at you, Chevrolet Aveo), weight loss programs, or the screening process for priests and pilots. Everyone seems to want immediate results without putting in the required time and effore. So many of these same people despise their wretched, run-of-the-mill lives, yet hardly any of them are willing to put in the work and hours required to change. Putting in the effort, however, is always worth it, for even if there is ultimately nothing accomplished or completed, there is always experience gained. Carpe Diem.

First and foremost, racism is completely ignorant and unnecessary. There is no reason to ever hate anyone because of their outer appearance, and there are not, nor will there ever be, exceptions to this rule. Racism is not only found among Whites, it is found in Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, and every other race on the planet. The best way to defeat this racism is not through more racism, nor violence, but non-violence alone can combat this evil enemy.

Black nationalists have taken it upon themselves to fight back against racism with violence towards the “White Man,” which is extremely counter-productive and, essentially, makes them racists themselves. This helps nothing and only makes the group they are combating more racist, more violent, and more hateful. There is nothing helpful in this method, but everything hurtful.

One of the main issues people need to get past in order to destroy racism is the fact that what happened in the past is history and we needn’t dwell on it. In contrast we need to move forward. The key word here is “forgive.” I am a white man, but I have never enslaved anyone, never whipped anyone, never denied anyone anything based on race; yet some men hate me as if I have done all of these things, only because of the color of my skin.

Also, programs intended to advance the members of any race, such as Affirmative Action, only widen the social gap between races. The complete and immediate destruction of all similar programs would be an excellent step in the obliteration of racism. Everyone, even the people who “benefit” from these programs would benefit more from their collapse.

So far most of these arguments have been geared towards the world’s minorities, however, Whites are the biggest perpetrators of this issue. I have no desire to support this argument by facts of the past because the people involved in racism at that time are not the same people involved in the present and future struggles. My main argument on this issue rather is the white men and women I meet and talk to everyday, especially in the south of the United States where so many are racist. Much of their reasoning is completely ignorant and inherited from relatives. If a man is racist there is a great chance he will raise his children as racists, and there is a good chance his children will not give up these ideas when they become of an age when it is reasonable to think for one’s self.

Many of the Whites’ arguments are based on the percentage of other races in jail, crime rate, language (including accents and slang), among other things. These are not only irrelevant, but ignorant, and do not matter because, no matter what, all men are different. These percentages have everything to do with income, location, etc., and nothing to do with skin color.

So, please, next time you have something negative to say or do against a member of another race, please think it through and either keep it to your self or disband it from your mind. As a matter of fact, do everything in your power to keep any of these thoughts from ever entering your mind, and you will be a better person for it. Be the change you want to see in the world.

The current system of higher education (College or University) is complete and utter bullshit. It is practically the same thing as high school, except it costs $15,000 a year for the schools that aren’t even considered good (yet more bullshit). The same failing method that is used to teach high school is used to teach college, or University for those in other countries. I can not speak for these other countries however, so don’t think that is what I am trying to accomplish. I am merely speaking on what I know, and what I know are the colleges of the United States.

The failing method I speak so negatively of is this: one goes to class (this usually is not a class the student signed up for, but one that is merely required), one “learns” the required material, one studies said material in order to do well on the test, one passes said test, one forgets said material. This is the cycle that goes on continually in our society and no one has yet been brave enough to question it. Well, I believe I am now prepared for the challenge.

I have also mention that some colleges are not considered “good” schools. The masses believe that if they don’t go to an expensive school with a great reputation, they will not be able to find the job they are looking for. This is, of course, false. The object of college is simple: pay thousands for a piece of paper that proves you did just that. Let me go over this again. The object of college is to give people with money a higher footing in the job market.

It may take tens–if not hundreds–of years to destroy this heinous system, but if the people of our country join together, as we have seen before, anything is possible. I propose any person who views this and has a question or rebuttal, post it in the comments and we may continue this dispute there.
